TreatmentPROSTATE CANCER
Why is this medication prescribed?

Enzalutamide is used to treat prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body in men and who have been helped by certain medical and surgical treatments that decrease testosterone levels. It is also used to treat prostate cancer in men who have not been helped by certain medical and surgical treatments that decrease testosterone levels. Enzalutamide is in a class of medications called androgen receptor inhibitors. It works by blocking the effects of androgen (a male reproductive hormone) to stop the growth and spread of cancer cells.

How should this medicine be used?

Enzalutamide comes as a tablet or a capsule to take by mouth. It is usually taken with or without food once a day. Take enzalutamide at around the same time every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take enzalutamide exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Swallow the tablets or capsules whole; do not crush, chew, divide, dissolve, or open them.

Your doctor may tell you to stop taking enzalutamide for a short time or decrease your dose if you experience serious side effects during your treatment. Be sure to talk to your doctor about how you are feeling during your treatment with enzalutamide.

If your doctor has prescribed another medication such as degarelix (Firmagon), goserelin (Zoladex), histrelin (Supprelin LA, Vantas), leuprolide (Eligard, Lupron, in Lupaneta Pack), or triptorelin (Trelstar, Triptodur) to treat your prostate cancer, you will need to continue receiving this medication during your treatment with enzalutamide.

Continue to take enzalutamide even if you feel well. Do not stop taking enzalutamide without talking to your doctor.

Ask your pharmacist or doctor for a copy of the manufacturer''s information for the patient.

Other uses for this medicine

This medication may be prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

What special precautions should I follow? Before taking enzalutamide,
  • tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to enzalutamide, any other medications, or any of the ingredients in enzalutamide tablets or capsules. Ask your pharmacist or check the manufacturer''s information for the patient for a list of the ingredients.
  • tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, and nutritional supplements you are taking or plan to take. Be sure to mention any of the following: anticoagulants (''blood thinners'') such as warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven), carbamazepine (Carbatrol, Equetro, Tegretol, others), clopidogrel (Plavix), cyclosporine (Gengraf, Neoral, Sandimmune), dihydroergotamine (D.H.E. 45, Migranal), ergotamine (in Migergot, in Cafergot), fentanyl (Actiq, Duragesic, Fentora, Subsys, others), gemfibrozil (Lopid), itraconazole (Onmel, Sporanox), omeprazole (Prilosec), midazolam, phenobarbital, phenytoin (Dilantin, Phenytek), pimozide (Orap), quinidine (in Nuedexta), rifabutin (Mycobutin, in Talicia), rifampin (Rimactane, in Rifamate, in Rifater), rifapentine (Priftin), sirolimus (Rapamune), and tacrolimus (Prograf). Your doctor may need to change the doses of your medications or monitor you carefully for side effects. Many other medications may also interact with enzalutamide, so be sure to tell your doctor about all the medications you are taking, even those that do not appear on this list.

What is palbociclib?

Palbociclib is an oral medicine that is used to treat specific types of breast cancer in adults. Your doctor will prescribe it for you if it has a proven benefit for your type of cancer.

It is used in combination with other cancer treatments, either aromatase inhibitor or fulvestrant, which one you use will depend on your clinical factors.

It is a targeted therapy which blocks CDK4 and CDK6, which are enzymes in cells that are important for cell division. Blocking these proteins helps to slow down cells that are dividing, which slows down cancer growth.

What is palbociclib used for?

Palbociclib is used to treat adult patients with hormone receptor (HR)-positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative advanced or metastatic breast cancer. It should always be used in combination with another medicine either:

  • an aromatase inhibitor as initial endocrine-based therapy in postmenopausal women or in men; or
  • fulvestrant in patients with disease progression following endocrine therapy.
Important information

Palbociclib may cause serious side effects, including:

Low white blood cell counts (neutropenia). This increases your risk of serious infections. Low white blood cell counts are very common when taking palbociclib and may cause serious infections that can lead to death. Your healthcare provider should check your white blood cell counts before and during treatment.

If you develop low white blood cell counts during treatment, your healthcare provider may stop your treatment, decrease your dose, or may tell you to wait to begin your treatment cycle. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you have signs and symptoms of low white blood cell counts or infections such as fever and chills.

Lung problems (pneumonitis). Palbociclib may cause severe or life-threatening inflammation of the lungs during treatment that can lead to death. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you have any new or worsening symptoms, including:

  • trouble breathing or shortness of breath
  • cough with or without mucus
  • chest pain

TreatmentNATZOLD INJECTION contains Zoledronic acid used to treat postmenopausal osteoporosis, Paget's diseas
Prescription/Non prescriptionPrescription
FormInjection

NATZOLD INJECTION belongs to the class of medicines called 'bisphosphonates' used to treat osteoporosis (weak and brittle bones) caused by menopause or long-term steroid use. NATZOLD INJECTION also treats Paget’s bone and high calcium levels caused by cancer. Osteoporosis is a bone disease that weakens and thins bones by decreasing bone density, common in post-menopausal women.  As the density of bones decreases, they weaken and are more likely to break.

NATZOLD INJECTION contains Zoledronic acid that works by binding to the bone tightly and preventing the removal of calcium by osteoclasts (a type of bone cells that destroy bone tissue). This prevents osteoclasts from breaking down the bone and keeps the bones strong and minimizes the risk of bones breaking.

A doctor or nurse will give NATZOLD INJECTION intravenously (IV). You are advised to take NATZOLD INJECTION for as long as your doctor has prescribed it for you based on your medical condition. In some cases, you may experience headache, fever, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, back pain, diarrhoea, pain in the muscles, joints or bones, swelling or pain at the infusion site. Most of these side effects of NATZOLD INJECTION do not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.

If you are allergic to NATZOLD INJECTION or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Avoid taking NATZOLD INJECTION if you are pregnant or breastfeeding and consult a doctor. NATZOLD INJECTION is not recommended for children below 18 years as the safety and effectiveness were not established. Avoid taking NATZOLD INJECTION if you have hypocalcaemia (low calcium levels in the blood) and severe kidney problems. Drive only if you are alert as NATZOLD INJECTION may cause dizziness. NATZOLD INJECTION may cause osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) in some patients. Therefore, if you experience any problems with teeth or mouth such as loose teeth, swelling or pain, non-healing of sores or discharge, consult your doctor and dentist as these might be signs of osteonecrosis of the jaw.

Capecitabine is used to help treat patients with Dukes' C colon cancer (colon cancer that has spread to lymph nodes in the area close to the colon), after having surgery. This medicine is also used to treat metastatic colorectal cancer (cancer of the colon or rectum that has spread to other parts of the body).

Capecitabine is also used together with docetaxel to treat metastatic breast cancer (breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body) in patients who have received other medicines (eg, paclitaxel) but did not worked well, or in patients who cannot receive cancer medicines anymore.

Capecitabine belongs to the group of medicines called antineoplastics (cancer medicines). It interferes with the growth of cancer cells, which are eventually destroyed by the body. Since the growth of normal cells may also be affected by the medicine, other side effects may also occur. Some of these may be serious and must be reported to your doctor.

This medicine is available only with your doctor's prescription.

This product is available in the following dosage forms:

  • Tablet
Before Using

In deciding to use a medicine, the risks of taking the medicine must be weighed against the good it will do. This is a decision you and your doctor will make. For this medicine, the following should be considered:

Allergies

Tell your doctor if you have ever had any unusual or allergic reaction to this medicine or any other medicines. Also tell your health care professional if you have any other types of allergies, such as to foods, dyes, preservatives, or animals. For non-prescription products, read the label or package ingredients carefully.

Pediatric

Appropriate studies have not been performed on the relationship of age to the effects of capecitabine in the pediatric population. Safety and efficacy have not been established.

Geriatric

Appropriate studies performed to date have not demonstrated geriatric-specific problems that would limit the usefulness of capecitabine in the elderly. However, elderly patients are more likely to have unwanted side effects (eg, severe diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, hand-and-foot syndrome) or age-related kidney or liver problems, which may require caution and an adjustment in the dose for patients receiving capecitabine.

Breastfeeding

Studies in women breastfeeding have demonstrated harmful infant effects. An alternative to this medication should be prescribed or you should stop breastfeeding while using this medicine.

Drug Interactions

Although certain medicines should not be used together at all, in other cases two different medicines may be used together even if an interaction might occur. In these cases, your doctor may want to change the dose, or other precautions may be necessary. When you are taking this medicine, it is especially important that your healthcare professional know if you are taking any of the medicines listed below. The following interactions have been selected on the basis of their potential significance and are not necessarily all-inclusive.

Tenofovir alafenamide is used to treat chronic hepatitis B infection, a viral infection of the liver. It works by stopping or slowing the growth of the virus. Chronic hepatitis infection can lead to serious liver damage (cirrhosis) and liver cancer. It is not known if tenofovir alafenamide can cure hepatitis B or can prevent you from passing the virus to others. Practice "safer sex" (such as the use of latex condoms) to lower the risk of passing the virus to others.

How to use Tenofovir Alafenamide Fumarate Tablet

Before starting treatment with this medication, your doctor should test you for HIV infection. If you have HIV infection along with hepatitis B infection, tenofovir alafenamide should not be used alone since this may make it harder to treat your HIV infection. Combination drug treatment should always be used to treat HIV infection.

Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start taking tenofovir alafenamide, and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this medication by mouth with food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily.

If you are on dialysis, on your dialysis days, take your daily dose of this medication following dialysis.

The dosage is based on your medical condition, response to treatment, and other medications you may be taking. Be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).

For the best effect, take this medication at evenly spaced times. To help you remember, take this medication at the same time every day.

If you vomit within 1 hour after taking a dose, take another dose of this medication. If vomiting occurs more than 1 hour after taking your dose, do not take another dose. Take your next dose at the regular time.

CompositionTHALIDOMIDE
Treatmentmultiple myeloma
Prescription/Non prescriptionPrescription
Generic nameThalidomide
BrandTHALIX
Country of OriginMade in India
Why is this medication prescribed?

Thalidomide is used along with dexamethasone to treat multiple myeloma in people who have been recently found to have this disease. It is also used alone or with other medications to treat and prevent skin symptoms of erythema nodosum leprosum (ENL; episodes of skin sores, fever, and nerve damage that occur in people with Hansen's disease [leprosy]). Thalidomide is in a class of medications called immunomodulatory agents. It treats multiple myeloma by strengthening the immune system to fight cancer cells. It treats ENL by blocking the action of certain natural substances that cause swelling.

How should this medicine be used?

Thalidomide comes as a capsule to take by mouth. Thalidomide is usually taken with water once a day at bedtime and at least 1 hour after an evening meal. If you are taking thalidomide to treat ENL, your doctor may tell you to take it more than once a day, at least 1 hour after meals. Take thalidomide at around the same time(s) every day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take thalidomide exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Keep the capsules in their packaging until you are ready to take them. Do not open the capsules or handle them more than necessary. If your skin comes into contact with broken capsules or powder, wash the exposed area with soap and water.

The length of your treatment depends on how your symptoms respond to thalidomide and whether your symptoms return when you stop taking the medication. Your doctor may need to interrupt your treatment or reduce your dose if you experience certain side effects. Do not stop taking thalidomide without talking to your doctor. When your treatment is complete your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually.

Megestrol acetate is a type of hormone treatment. It is also called Megace or megestrol. It is a man made version of the hormone progesterone. Progesterone is one of the female hormones but men also produce a small amount of it.

Megestrol acetate is treatment for breast cancer and womb cancer that has:

  • come back after treatment (recurred or relapsed)
  • spread to other parts of the body (secondary or metastatic cancer)

It is also a treatment for poor appetite. Your doctor might suggest you take it if you have lost weight because of cancer or its treatment.

  • Find out more about breast and womb cancer
How does megestrol acetate work?

Megestrol acetate is a man-made version of the hormone progesterone. Progesterone is one of the female hormones, but men also make a small amount of it.

Hormones are natural substances made by glands in our bodies. They are carried around our body in our bloodstream and act as messengers between one part of our body and another.

Some cancers use hormones to grow or develop. This means the cancer is hormone sensitive or hormone dependent.

Megestrol acetate can interfere with the hormone balance in the body so that the body makes smaller amounts of the hormones that some cancers depend on to grow. It may also interact with other hormones or have a direct effect on the cancer to stop it growing.

How do you have megestrol acetate?

You have megestrol acetate as a tablet.

You must take tablets according to the instructions your doctor or pharmacist gives you.

You should take the right dose, not more or less.

Talk to your specialist or advice line before you stop taking a cancer drug.

How often do you take megestrol acetate?

You usually take megestrol acetate once a day, at the same time each day. But sometimes the dose is divided up, so that you take the tablets a couple of times a day.

When you start taking it you should take them for at least 2 months. This is to find out if they are working. You can take them for many years.

What are the side effects of megastrol acetate?

How often and how severe the side effects are can vary from person to person. They also depend on what other treatments you're having. For example, your side effects could be worse if you're also having other drugs or radiotherapy.

When to contact your team

Your doctor, nurse or pharmacist will go through the possible side effects. They will monitor you closely during treatment and check how you are at your appointments. Contact your advice line as soon as possible if:

  • you have severe side effects
  • your side effects aren’t getting any better
  • your side effects are getting worse

Early treatment can help manage side effects better.
